Orvel Griffith retired from the telecommunications
field in February of 2000. For years, Orvel
felt that he had had the call to work for the
Lord, but felt inadequate. So for a couple of
years, he took some courses at a junior college
in Fort Brag, California. In the summer of 2004,
Orvel and Kandi went to Missouri for a family
reunion. While there, they decided to check
out the Ozark Christian College (OCC) and the
surrounding area. While driving back to California,
Orvel and Kandi talked about moving to Missouri
within one or two years, as a real possibility.
Later that year in early July, Orvel and Kandi
returned home. By October 15th of the same year,
they had sold all their furniture, they rented
a U-haul, they sold one car, they sold their
house, he packed up his mother-in-law and all
were on the road to Missouri. Then on November
15th of that year, they purchased a new home
in Neosho, Missouri. In mid-January the following
year, Orvel enrolled himself fulltime at OCC.
Kandi says that it was the easiest move they
had ever made.
Prior to their move to Missouri, Orvel and Kandi
had traveled with Casa Por Christo to Juarez,
Mexico to help build a house. They also traveled
to a farm migrant camp located in King City,
California. There they taught Vacation Bible
School (VBS). Subsequent to their move to Missouri
and enrolling at OCC, Orvel has been on several
mission trips. He has traveled to Zacatecas,
Mexico, to Moldova and to Costa Rica. Also in
the summer of 2006, Orvel and Kandi both traveled
to Barbados on a six-weeks mission trip. Interestingly
enough some 40 years prior, Orvel had been in
Barbados to help plant and build churches. Even
today, some of the same buildings are still
standing.
Today, Orvel is a graduate of OCC with a Bachelor
of Arts degree in Cross Cultural Ministry and
Christian Ministry and a Certificate in Bible
Literature.
Orvel and Kandi have been married for 19 years.
They have three children and two grandchildren.
All of the children still reside in the Sacramento,
California area.
Orvel says that while he was attending a missions
class at the Ozark Christian College, he was
introduced to Dr. Michael Householder (Mike).
Orvel says that he was impressed with Mike's
dedication to the Lord and with Mike's zeal
to preach the Word of God to the lost throughout
the world. Orvel says that Global Church
Growth Discipling Ministries (GCGDMinistries)
have the biblical tools, leadership, and experience
to nurture and participate in the growth of
the Church both locally and cross-culturally.
Orvel says that he and Kandi will be
working together with GCGDMinistries to promote
discipleship in the southern Caribbean.
Orvel says that he and Kandi will be
working with the nationals planting churches
in the northern half of Barbados and that they
will also be working with the existing churches
and their leaders. Orvel says that their vision
is to see the Barbados churches grow and become
self-supporting and truly indigenous to the
"Bajan" (Barbados) culture. "For we are
God's workmanship, created in Christ to do good
works, which God prepared in advance for us
to do." Ephesians 2:20 Orvel says
that this vital work is only possible with you,
the reader's help! And that together, we can
plant communities of hope!
Please join Orvel, his wife Kandi, and GCGDMinistries
in planting God's hope inside the hearts of
the poor, lost and hopeless of the Southeast
Caribbean. Remember, your prayers and support
help bring communities of hope to realization.
Consider helping support the planting of God's
seed in the people of the Caribbean. Your monthly
contribution or special gift will help plant
hope where the soil is poor and water scarce.

Orvel asks and says, 'Please
pray for us, for the mission and for the people
of Barbados. We ask that you prayerfully consider
partnering with us through prayer and financial
help. In 2 Cor. 9:7, we read, “Each man should
give what he has decided in his heart to give,
not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God
loves a cheerful giver.
Blessings in Christ,
